The ATOMIC Cherry Bombs are an all-female performance troupe based out of ATOMIC Ballroom in Irvine, CA. We are an eclectic mix of strong women who come together to educate the community, through performance and classes, on vintage culture and dance. Below is a list of our specialties:
Charleston – Charleston was a dance popularized in the 1920’s and has been made famous by the depiction of the “flapper”. Flappers were young women in the 1920’s who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to Jazz music and dance the vulgar Charleston.
Chorus Line – A Chorus Line is a substantial group of dancers doing synchronized routines. These routines often involve intricate formation changes and kick lines.
Burlesque – Burlesque is the art of striptease; often satirical and comic but always sexy. Modern Burlesque is typically inspired performers from the 1930’s to the 1960’s.
1940’s Jazz – Jitterbug, Lindy Hop and related Swing dances were at their peak in the 1940’s and they carry their own set of Jazz dance standards that we typically call Vernacular Jazz.
1960’s Go-Go – The 1960’s were a time of liberation when dancing became less structured and more free form. Go go originated by club goers in the 1960’s who got up on tables and did the Twist.
